(Earrings) Raku Kintsugi Vase

€200.00

This vase combines two stunning Japanese techniques: raku and kintsugi.

After the form was thrown on the wheel, it was fired in the raku tradition. This involves heating and cooling the piece very quickly, causing thermal shock and creating cracks. Then the piece is placed in a pit with paper and wood, which burn and smoke. The soot fills in the cracks and make them visible.

This process can be quite rough and hard on delicate pieces. In the raku firing process, the vulnerable handles of this vase broke. To repair the broken pieces, inspiration was taken from the kintsugi technique, which heals cracks and fractures with gold. This makes the final piece stronger and more beautiful than before the damage was done.

The result is truly one-of-a-kind, and makes a beautiful complement to your table or mantle.
